About Fukiurushi
Fukiurushi is a type of lacquer painting technique in which thin layers of raw lacquer* are rubbed onto the wood, bringing out the beauty of the wood's grain and wood grain. Raw lacquer is applied to the wood, then immediately wiped off evenly with cotton or paper, and allowed to harden; this process is repeated many times. A very thin film of lacquer is formed on the surface of the base, protecting the wood from water and oil and creating a glossy finish that brings out the wood grain. With this technique, roughness and scratches on the surface of the wood are easily noticeable, so the finish of the wood is also important. Fukiurushi | Suriurushi
