Natural and synthetic lacquerware
There is a misconception about lacquerware that it was originally crafts and tableware made by applying layers of lacquer (sap) extracted from the urushi tree , and in a broad sense, it can refer to any craft product that is coated with lacquer. If that is the case, then what about products that are coated with synthetic resin, cashew paint, or urethane paint, which are used as substitutes for lacquer?
This is called synthetic lacquerware. As times have changed, it has also become a product that was created for industrial use and for its ease of use. The boundaries of what constitutes lacquerware have become wider and shallower over time.
While natural lacquerware is valuable, synthetic lacquerware has many advantages, such as being easy to handle, strong, and less likely to peel off, and can be used in a variety of situations depending on its usability.
